Reclaiming Happiness: The Personal Responsibility in Corporate Wellness

The journey to personal happiness and well-being is not a straight path; it’s a winding road filled with challenges, reflections, and realizations. As the founder of This Is Happier, I've made it my mission to help individuals, entrepreneurs, and corporates unearth their path to personal happiness. But the most potent lesson that stands out? Happiness begins with the individual.

From Burnout to Clarity

My personal tale of spiraling into burnout and rediscovering a happier version of me underscores the essence of our individual role in achieving well-being. During the demanding days of juggling entrepreneurial dreams and personal life, I lost myself in the demands, falling prey to burning the candle and two ends of the stick with overwork and neglect. The result? A devastating burnout that forced a halt in my life.

While it's easy to point fingers at the relentless grind of corporate culture or the demanding nature of startup life, the truth emerged clear as day during my recovery: It was my choices, and my decisions that had led me down this path. Yes, organizations have a crucial role in supporting the well-being of their teams, but ultimately, the power of choice rests with us.

Taking 100% Responsibility: the Pillar of  Wellbeing

We, as individuals, have the power to make decisions that can either propel us into a state of chronic stress or lead us toward a balanced life. Feeling exhausted? Speak up and take that much-needed break. Feel overwhelmed by the constant influx of demands? Create boundaries. Each choice, from the foods we eat to the moments we choose to take for ourselves, plays a pivotal role in our overall well-being. This power of choice is both liberating and daunting. On the one hand, we have the tools to shape our well-being, but on the other, it requires a heightened self-awareness many of us haven’t cultivated.

However, recognizing these choices and understanding their importance isn't always innate. My journey required a shift from a mindset of judging situations or others (and even harshly critiquing myself) to one where I took 100% responsibility for my own happiness, well-being, and fulfillment. It's an ongoing journey, filled with lessons that I believe can immensely benefit the corporate and entrepreneurial world.

Making Corporate Spaces a Hub for Well-being

Given that most of our waking moments are dedicated to work, either running our own businesses or working for someone else, it becomes paramount to integrate our whole selves in these environments. We cannot compartmentalize our well-being and expect to thrive. By embracing our entirety, acknowledging our needs, and implementing change from a personal level, we can inspire a ripple effect of well-being in our workplaces and communities.

This places an immense responsibility on organizations to foster well-being. But more than policies and provisions, corporates need to instill a culture where personal well-being is valued and prioritized.  By fostering environments that promote well-being, discouraging the glorification of overwork, and providing avenues for personal growth, they can significantly impact the wellness of their teams. However, the essence of lasting change and genuine well-being starts at the individual level.

The lessons from my journey have equipped me to contribute significantly to this space. By weaving my personal experiences into actionable insights, I aim to transform corporate and entrepreneurial environments into havens of happiness and well-being.

The Ripple Effect of Personal Well-being

This personal journey and the insights gleaned from it are not just stories; they're tools and strategies to navigate the demanding world of entrepreneurship and corporate life. The knowledge that our well-being significantly influences our professional success is empowering. By focusing on individual well-being, we can create environments where businesses don't just succeed; they thrive, innovate, and grow, driven by individuals who are whole, content, and motivated.

When we prioritize our well-being, we're not just making a choice for ourselves; we're setting a precedent for our teams, our colleagues, and everyone we interact with. It's a powerful statement that says, "I value myself, and I value you." This is the essence of "This Is Happier." It's a call to integrate our whole selves, to find personal happiness and well-being, and to inspire others to do the same.
